Snow DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Can you see a driveway in any of these photos? It is THERE, between the hill and the fence, that is why I am staying home from work today, no plow truck here yet, and I don't feel like trying to guess where the driveway is and the ditches aren't. Nice day to stay home and do a little stitching or cleaning or vegging on the couch with Dandy. GUESS WHAT I WILL BE DOING?????

Been Quiet Lately

Not too much exciting going on around here, Well I guess I can't say that either. DD Kendra is engaged and the date is set for Memorial Day Weekend next year. We have been looking for dresses, Finally found "THE DRESS" Girls got bridesmaid dresses, etc. so that has been fun. I have been doing a little quilting and sewing, and gardening and canning etc. Life is GOOD. Fall is here (I always tell everyone I am here (Wisconsin) for those 3 weeks in Oct. and I guess they are here so I better enjoy them while I can.

Last night I got an early birthday present from Hubby, wish I had it in the house but not yet, still in the bed of his truck. He bought me a new to me Cedar Chest, I have never seen one like this before, it is more the size of a Night Stand and it has 2 false drawers in front and 1 real drawer (lined with cedar) on the bottom and the 2 false drawers are the cedar chest part. Also came with a piece of glass for the top so you can set things on top of it. LOVE IT, when we get it in the house I will post some pics of it.

I have gotten some new quilts, Toni at http://www.underthediningroomtable.blogspot.com/gave me this awesome crazy quilt. I LOVE IT, cozy and comfy.

And Elaine at http://soggybottomflats.blogspot.com/ sent me this box of WOOL to add to my stash. GREAT TO HAVE FRIENDS HEY!!!!!!!

I got this little honey off ebay for a steal of a deal, it is hand stitched but machine quilted and I LOVE IT, just my style, cottage and homey style. Nothing fancy just cute. It is going to be hanging on my quilt rack in my sewing room so I can play with it when ever I want. It smells and looks like it has never been used, it has a couple of spots along the border that need to be restitched but other than that, it is in great shape, think it is from the 1940's. Anyway, I am happy with it. :) And that is Dandy our Rat Terrier who thinks the chair and the quilt belong to her. :)

Finished Quilt

Got this finished and I LOVE IT, looks vintage, and comfy too. Not quilted to death, I personally don't like quilts when they are so quilted that they feel "Stiff" I like the soft snuggly feeling better. And this one definately fits that bill.

SOME PROGRESS AND SOME QUESTIONS

I am working on a Vintage Linen 9 Patch quilt, I am looking for some advice, To Sash or Not To Sash, that is the question. Here are some pics without any sashing, I just laid some blocks down in no particular order so don't pay any attention to that part, just what you think of the no sashing look. TOO BUSY or VINTAGE??????

Any opinions or ideas?

Here is the floss I got today to start my Wool Crazy Blocks, I have some crewel wool that I plan on intermingleing with this floss, I am still looking for some perle cotton to co ordinate too. I am getting impatient and want to get started but I want all my thread before I start. I said to someone today "Why can't I find what I want" and she said "Why can't you want what you find?" Great concept I guess.

Iboght this plate for $1.50 at a flea market a couple of years ago and I LOVE IT. I don't think it is anything special but I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, I haven't ever seen another one like it either. Fits right in my homey vintage kitchen. :)

Thursday Vintage Thingie

Long Time NO SEE, sorry to have disappeared but we have had some health issues for the past 8 months. Things seem to be going good now so I am back online. No pics for this, check my Valentines Day post, that is my Vintage Thingie, I found it at the local thrift shop and just couldn't pass it up. I THINK IT IS BRAND NEW AND WAS PUT AWAY WITHOUT EVER BEING USED. :) I AM THRILLED WITH IT. As you can see, so is our cat. We had a little fight over who really owns the afghan, guess who won?????

IT IS GREAT TO BE BACK, can't wait to check out everyone's treasures this week.

WOW, what a find. I LOVE Granny Square Afghans and this one is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! not stretched out or mis shapen, colors are awesome and I fell in LOVE WITH IT. Got it today at the thrift store for $3.00. Couldn't pass it up. I went in looking for wool but came home with an afghan instead. :) And couldn't be happier with my find. As you can see our cat likes it too. And it is on a queen size bed. HUGE!!!!!!!!!!

It has been a long winter here and I haven't had much time or ambition to blog, sad isn't it. But now I am ready for spring and ready to start new adventures. I just joined a new blog http://pumpkinpatchprimitiveswoolcrazy.blogspot.com/ and this should be SOOO MUCH FUN. Nothing better than playing with wool and the local thrift store is having a 50% off day on Monday, EVERYTHING IN THE STORE IS 50% off, what more incentive do I need to go woolie shopping NOT MUCH!!!!!!!!!! IT is supposed to be warm here (20's is warm here for this time of year) this weekend and the sun is supposed to shine so I want to get my car washed, thinking of splurging and going into THE BIG CITY and getting it washed, some smell good added and I think they vacuum it out too. Exciting plans hey??????? And of course it is Valentines Day too. I bought Cupcakes so I am off the hook for buying or making anything. Also got a little cabinet (I will add a photo sometime soon) that I need to do some work on, I am hoping to be able to get the contact paper off the sides of it without having to strip the whole thing. I bought it at an auction for $1.00 and it is solid wood and has cool old metal hardware. Just needs a little TLC. So hopefully the weather co operates with me. WISH ME LUCK!!!!

Taking it outside again this week, the weather was great today so I thought I would share some of our flowers at the same time. I honestly can't take credit for the awesome flowers, that is all Hubby's doings. HE LOVES THE FLOWER BEDS. I should do a post about them one of these days. He does such a good job taking care of the lawn, the rock garden, the flower beds and the veggie garden. :) Thought I would give him a little credit this week since it is Fathers Day this weekend. ALSO our 29th Wedding Anniversary. :) there are numbers and names underneath the rust on the milk cans too. They are on either side of our entry way to our screened in porch. These came from my Dad's Mothers Family Farm.

Here are a couple of photos of things from my Great Aunt Leona (I always say I am a direct descendant of Ole and Lena because my Great Aunt and Uncles names were Olof and Leona Johnsrud) can't get much more Norwegian than that. The pillow is just 2 dish cloths sewed together with yarn woven thru it. My Great Aunt gave this to me years ago, I lived with them while I was in college and that was YEARS AGO. The 50th Anniversary plate is also from them. they have been gone for over 20 years so this is an old plate. I think it was handed down thru the family too, it is a Japanese Plate. There is a vase too but the vase picture was too blurry to show up. You can sort of see part of it in the plate photo. :) Great keepsakes to have.

This weeks post is all about my Dad, he would have been 91 yesterday, he died 2 years ago and I MISS HIM EVERY DAY. These are some of the photos I have of him. They are precious to say the least. Thanks for sharing with me. He is the one kneeling on the far left with the calf and he is the older boy in the family photo. :) And that is him with his favorite two things when he was young, his gun and his dog. :) He always was an animal lover. :)

Finished a Project

So all this wool talk got me motivated. I have had this felted sweater for some time and wanted to make a purse out of it, so Sunday I worked on it and finished it. The only thing I will do differently on the next one is find a belt for the handle instead of the sweater sleeves, so now I guess I will be haunting the thrift stores looking for the perfect belt for this one, a little "resewing" never hurt anyone. :) so what does everyone think???

Everyone join in, this should be FUN. I missed out on the last one, don't intend to miss out on this one too. I am giving away some of my wool stash, possibly some hand dyed, possibly a little kit. Vintage Thingie Thursday

I decided to take it outside this week. Hubby went to CLEAN SWEEP for the township (Where you take all your old paint cans etc) and came home with these two wicker chairs, just need a little paint and they will be good as new. The CHICKEN FEEDER (Yes it really is an old chicken feeder) My Girlfriend did a little decorating on and gave it to me to put plants in. It has been too cold to get it planted yet but hopefully this weekend we can get some plants in it. We put DUSTY MILLERS in the bottom and wave petunias in the top. LOOKS PRETTY COOL when we get it all done up. IT is GOOD TO BE BACK. Haven't been able to get here for the past couple of weeks, DD moved home and into my sewing room (Where my computer is) so time is precious in there now. :)

Some Garden Photos

Here are some pics of our flower beds, the rock garden is a WIP, we are making it bigger (Higher and wider) you can see behind the wall that it is mowed, we are going to expand it there. Never mind the hole in the door or the dead hanging basket, it is still too cold here to put out bedding plants or anything. The pansies wintered over all by themselves. TOUGH LITTLE THINGS and they have been blooming ALL SPRING, thru the snow, cold, frosts (Last night we had another frost) etc. So I had to take a photo of the hardy little things. our Hen N Chix is doing good too, we planted that last year, the phlox you can see in the pansie photo are a year or so old too. We need ot paint the grating underneath the deck too. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT THE PLANTS NOT THE REST OF THE STUFF, oh yea, the bird bath was a Mothers Day Present a couple of years ago and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

Here are some of the things from my little suitcase last week, my photos never show up in the order I think they are going to so I won't try to explain what they are, but these were all a Christmas Present from My Parents a few years ago, my Mom knows I am crazy over this sort of stuff and these are all from my Grandma on my Mom's side. she was a seamstress in a small town in Wisconsin. There are more but these are some of my favorites that are in there. I can remember from the time I was little how much I loved playing with her buttons and fabric, she died when I was 16 and I never really got to quilt with her but I have all her buttons, all her handiwork (There is some hardanger in there too) but I wish I had more time to quilt with her. :) I still have all the doll clothes she made for my Barbie Dolls too. My Computer is up and running WOOOHOOO, so tonight I decided to put something good on here, I have had this suitcase since I was a little Girl (And my Little Girls have birthdays today and they are 24) so that should give you an idea how old my suitcase is, I have another one too but I will save that for another Vintage Thingie Thursday, this one is full of vintage linens as you can see. I GOT MY COMPUTER BACK!!!!!

Lesley's (OH SO NICE 1st DD) wonderful boyfriend came and hooked up my computer for me, seems I had the wireless thing hooked up to the wrong plug in or something like that. Anyway, it is great to have it back. I missed it alot.

Yesterday I took a quilty trip down to Rosemont to the Int'l Quilt Festival. WOOHOOOO. So much fun, didn't spend much money but wish I had more time to take a 2nd trip around the vendors, it was SOOOO BUSY, I kept marking places I wanted to go back to but of course, NEVER GOT THERE, so that was a tad bit disappointing but other than that it was a great day. I got a couple of patterns and some moleskin thimble like things that I absolutely LOVE. I wanted to take pictures but everything I wanted to take pictures of had no photography signs in front of it. :( There were some beautiful quilts there tho. I also got to meet the Girls from
www.lastingtreasure.com. Chatted with them a little bit about "Sophie" they are so talented and creative, I LOVE THAT THEY SHARE THEIR TALENTS!!!!!!!!!!

I am late (still no computer but it is getting closer to home, in the trunk of oldest DD's car and it should be here TOMORROW) anyway, here is my Vintage thingie for this week, this is my ANTIQUE (From the 1890's) Doll Quilt, it is hanging in my sewing room because I don't want to let the dolls have it, they will sit on it in their rocking chairs, this way it is there for everyone to see. My BFF (Toni) got it for me at a flea market for $15.00 including the hanger!!!!!!!!!! WOW, I am going junking with her from now on. LOL. LOVE IT and couldn't think of anywhere else I would rather see it. :) Jeanne

Didn't get my computer back yet, but figured out how to save pics on DD's computer, so here we go. This little honey came from DMIL when she moved into Assisted Living, it has a Ben Franklin Sticker on the bottom that says $1.19 on it!!!!!!!! Isn't it beautiful??? it is wooden and that is a real cameo on the front of it, inside is a locket with my Great Grandmothers photo in it and the other vintage jewelry came with the box from Grandma. QUILTY WEEKEND

Still no computer so still no pictures but this weekend was 1 of our 2 quilty weekends. There are anywhere from 10-20 of us that get together, quilt, chat, eat etc. for the weekend. This weekend I only took my embroidery because I was coming home early, I got my 3rd block done and started on these, I FELL IN LOVE WITH THESE LITTLE CUTIES: Go to Free Block of the Month at the top of the page and once you get to that page see on the right it says Sophie Block of the Month, click on that and VOILA, she is TOOO CUTE, so that is what I am working on now. Also got a 40% off coupon to Michaels so I think I am going to buy myself a light box, I have been using the window (Great tool if there is enough light) but one of the girls at the retreat had a light box and what a difference that made. Then she told me they are only around $20.00 with the coupon so I am definately check that out. :) WOOOHOOO.

thought it would be fun to share, I didn't do the whole room altho I could have it is pretty small. 1st pic is my favorite place to sit, Addy moves for me so I can do my hand work in My Grandma's Rocker with her old floor lamp behind me, just a nice peaceful place to sit and stitch, 2nd pic is my pegboard and my Ikea rail, I love both of them, the pegboard looks a little tacky but I have so much stuff on there I would hate to give it up, thought about painting it the same color as the wall but then I thought that might not look so good either, 3rd pic is of some of my storage area, the bookshelf has a mate, but DD #2 stole that from me and is using it in her room, the box (With all the wool and magazines on top of it) is an old ammunition box that I got at an auction for $5.00 WOW it holds lots of magazines as you can see, also to the right of the bookshelf>>>>that binder is full of more magazines, that seems to be one of my downfalls, is magazines, can't throw them away but can't keep collecting them either. I have 2 vintage boxes (not in the pictures) full of doilies, dresser scarves, tatting, hardanger etc. that I have sitting around in the room, oh yea, forgot that Log Cabin block that is framed and sitting at the foot of the rocker, I have about 7 of those cut up and framed, the quilt was SOOO DAMAGED, but some of the blocks were still good so I saved them and framed them, they are also some of my favorite things in my room, and I can't forget my Vintage Aprons (that is what is hanging by the bookshelf and the ammo. box) so there you have my creative and dreaming space. I LOVE IT, when I moved in this room I didn't think I would like the blue walls, but you know what they grow on you and now I LOVE THEM.

Nothing too exciting today, the snow we got yesterday (3" or so) is melting nicely, I have been working on my embroidery block #3 and that is about it. Just had to share this, my Girlfriend is quite talented I (the Amish in her area trade her fabric for her to do quilting for them) and she is designing blocks from Little House on the Prairie Series, here is Laura with her Doll Charlotte she made me a card and sent it to me. Thought I would add a little cutie to the Sunday Blogging Community. :)

Vintage Thingie Thursday

Well I am a little early I think but won't have time later to do this so here we go, these are 6 of my WAY TOO MANY TO COUNT Vintage Feedsacks. I really should do something with them sometime, but I love having them and I can't cut them up I MIGHT NEED THEM FOR SOMETHING IMPORTANT SOME TIME!!!! I am like that with EVERY FABRIC I COLLECT, I think I might need it, I started collecting Feedsacks about 10 years ago when my DFIL (Who sadly died at 94 years old 2 years ago this month) brought home 2 big boxes of print feedsacks he had gotten at an auction for $1.00 a box because no one wanted them, so he gave them both to me, since then I collect them when ever I find them for a decent price, haven't ever found any bargains like that but I do find them every now and then. The colors are so vibrant and the fabric is great to work with, as old as these are (From the 1930's and 40's) they still wash up nice, no damage from years of storage either. MINE ARE SPECIAL TO ME. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I love playing with them. I take them out, refold them, sort thru them and put them back in the boxes on a not so regular basis.

Went Junking Today

Came home empty handed except for a new australian magazine I hadn't seen before, I think it is called Home made or Hand Made, has some cute projects in it. Seems like there are more and more of the Australian Magazines being sold here in the U.S. which I love since it is new material to check out. Also called my Girlfriend at the candle store and ordered some of her unscented tea lights to go with the lamp oil I buy from her, if you want some great smelling candles, this is the place to go, she has awesome candles. And she does make them in her spring house too. :) No big projects to show off, well I have some but they aren't done, I actually should be working on them. I decided to make Hamburger Soup for supper, MMMM GOOD, 1 # hamburger browned, 1/3 c. barley, 4 c. of water with beef bouillon added, a couple of bay leaves, cook that in the crock pot all day on low to medium, I get home from work around 5, put in 1/2-3/4 bag of frozen soup veggies and turn up the crock pot to high, let it cook another hour and VOILA>>>AWESOME SUPPER, I add some breadstix and we are good to go. One of my favorite crock pot recipes.

2nd Embroidery BOM done

TONS OF STITCHING LATER, here is BOM #2, it is a tad bit wrinkley, I haven't ironed it yet, it has been in a hoop or folded up in my stitching bag for quite some time while I worked on it. It turned out really nice I think. The pictures don't do them justice, the color of the background is a light army green (VINTAGE ALL THE WAY) and the sashing is going to be VINTAGE LINENS that are all in pastels. I can't wait to get this one finished. Should be right up my Vintage Alley. :)

Boring Thursday Night

Basketball is on, High School and the NCAA, so there isn't anything exciting on tv that I want to watch, Hubby is busy watching high school basketball tournaments, I will watch tomorrow when a little town not too far from us is playing. I could ( and should be) doing some hand work but it is getting too late and Dandy (puppy) is a little annoying tonight so I can't accomplish much without her "helping" me with what ever it is I am trying to do. I am impatiently waiting for spring to arrive. We still (HONESTLY WE DO) have some snow patches on the ground on the hillsides, but most of it is gone. I want to get out and work in the flower beds and want to sit out on my front porch and read, speaking of reading, anyone got any suggestions for some good books to read? I have Water for Elephants and I think I might start that soon but haven't yet. Just haven't been quite in the mood but now that it is getting warmer out and I can hit the hiding spot (FRONT PORCH) soon I am getting in the mood. Front porch is my favorite spot to read and do my hand work, I can listen to the creek, the birds (sometimes they get a little noisy tho) and the wind blow thru the trees and relax and enjoy the fresh air. WOW, sound sappy or what??? LOL. Hubby is going to put up the Blue Bird Houses this weekend, hopefully we will get a pair or two f them to nest in our new boxes. I see them every year but this will be the 1st year we have put out houses for them, I am excited.

here are 3 of my Apron Collection, too late at night to take pics of all of them so these were the 1st three that came off the hangers for me. The first one with the bubbles is one of my favorites (who am I kidding, they are all my favorites) but I LOVE this ONE, the piping is too cute, and the pockets are piped too the 2nd one is different, the part that goes around your neck is Purple Velvet Ribbon, so soft and squishie, and it has embroidered flowers around the top and the bottom, other than that it is just an old feedsack apron, the 3rd one isn't as old as the other 2 but again another one of my favorites, there are 2 pics of this just because it has pockets and the pockets are so cool, they are piped with some sort of binding, not sure what it is and this one has a front midde and two side pieces, the pockets are on the center front piece and the side pieces are on the other side of the piping for the pockets, another different one. I will do some more on another day, Hope you enjoy these. :) Ok, now that I uploaded them, they are opposite of the number system I used. Bubbles is the last one. :)

Well the temps got up to around 65 degrees today but still have snow on the hillsides, hoping they are gone tomorrow, we might make it to 70 WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!! Dandy and I went for a little walk up the driveway when I got home from work and Rita (our outside Cat) came with us, a black/white cat, a black/white dog and I walking up the driveway, must have been quite a site.

I think Spring is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER HERE!!!! The weather has been great for the whole weekend, temps in the 50's and the sun has been out both days. Dandy (the puppy) and I went outside and sat on the porch for awhile today, that is one of the things (If not THE THING) that I LOVE about this house, my front porch, it looks out over the valley and I can read, do hand work, or just sit and contemplate. Today I filled the bird feeders and Dandy and I watched the birds fight over the food. We have morning doves, blue birds (But I haven't seen any yet this spring) tons of different types of wood peckers, at least 1 pair of Cardinals, a couple of pairs of blue jays>>>you hear them really early in the morning squacking (Sp) about who knows what. At night if I sit out there I can hear a hoot owl too. SOO PEACEFUL. Oh yea, I forgot about the coyotes at night, they aren't very peaceful right now, it is almost baby time so the females (They make all the noise>>IMAGINE THAT) are out howling most of the night back and forth to each other, it is quite disconcerting, it sounds like singing from people who don't know how to sing. Dandy isn't crazy about going out at night if they are howling. In front of the porch is a flower bed that has tons of perennials in it, hostas, phlox, and some others. It is spring so don't pay any attention to the brown ground or the dead hanging baskets, we will get that all taken care of when it is flower planting time (a couple of months yet) but in the meantime, enjoy my little corner of heaven, right here on my front porch.

:) we also have a little rock garden on the other side of the house that I will post some pics of when it looks better. And YES that is snow on the hillsides. We still have some snow around to remind us it isn't quite spring time yet.

First off, Sorry to Colorado Lady, for some reason I couldn't post a message on your website. And I have nothing Green, Sorry, but I do have a Jewelry Jar, the jar is awesome and the jewelry inside the jar is better. There are fake pearls, real pearls, junk jewelry, good jewelry, etc. I never use or wear any of it, I LOVE LOOKING AT IT. I have some more but it is in a plastic zip loc bag (not near as cool as the jar) so I am on the lookout for a vintage jar or something to display that jewelry in too. :) AND PAY NO ATTENTION To the junk behind it on my IKEA rail and my peg board. LOL. Actually it doesn't look near a cluttered in person. LOL

Bad News at The Barn

We had to put our foal down this morning, he somehow got underneath the stall he was in and wandered down to the other end of the barn where he got caught up in a big farm gate, we bottle fed him for 3 days but decided everyone had suffered enough and he wasn't responding like we thought he should have. :( We are going to miss him, what a short little life he had. No chance to enjoy the green grass and pastures with his Momma.

OK, so I am a bad Mom, haven't been out to see our horses for awhile, no need to, the guy who boards them takes good care of them, he called us today and says "I went out to water the horses today and GUESS WHAT>>>>>CHILLI has a FOAL" Now that is a tad bit strange because we don't have a stallion, but a guy who boarded there when we moved there did, he has since moved his horses but apparentely not before he let his stallion in with our mares!!!!!!! Not that we need ANOTHER HORSE, we had 5 to start with, but he is SOOO CUTE AND SUCH A SWEETIE, so now we have to come up with a name, Mom is Chilli because the markings on her head look like the country Chile, looked for city names in Chile that would work (CLEVER HEY) but no good boy names there. TOO LONG and too hard to say when you are calling a horse, you want something short and catchy. I thought of Santana, and Whiskey (Because I am about ready to drink some to settle my nerves) so anyone got any suggestions or ideas?? ISN'T HE A CUTIE, right now he is PEE WEE, but we don't want to keep that name.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD-Wisconsin Mac and Cheese

1 1/2 C. Macaroni Noodles
1 1/2 C. Milk
2 T. flour
Salt and Pepper to taste
2 C. Grated Cheese (I use Colby/Monteray Jack 0r COJACK)

Boil Noodle and drain, make a white sauce of milk and flour, if you don't know how to make a white sauce, just take a little milk and the flour and mix it together, don't mix the 2 T. of flour into the 1 1/2 c. milk or you will have lumpy sauce (but that is OK TOO, it tastes the same just lumpy) when you get the white sauce made, mix in the cheese (I do all this in the pan I make the sauce in) then add the noodles and mix til all the noodles are covered. Bake in Casserole Dish at 350 for 30-45 minutes. MMMM GOOD and helps keep the dairy farmers in business too. :)

A girlfriend is coming over tomorrow and we are going junking and quilt shop hopping all day long. Should be a fun day, today I cleaned out my car (so there is room to bring home all the treasures we find) and worked. Now I am home putting away all the stuff from my car and picking up a little bit. I feel like SPRING CLEANING even tho it isn't spring yet. Want to do some rearranging but don't know if I will get that accomplished, tonight DD# 1 is coming home to spend the night (MY SEWING ROOM IS HER OLD BEDROOM) so I need to get the floor cleaned up so we can throw the futon mattress down in here, lots to do so I better get busy. I will post tomorrow night with all the good stuff we found. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Here are 2 of my vintage pin cushions, notice how the pink one has little hangers on the bottom and the greem one has a bow to hang it from. They both have vintage home made flowers (out of lace etc. and the brown one has rick rack and the pink one has rich rack and sequins. LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!! I worked on my little table topper (Inspiration Sew, Mamma, Sew) yesterday, got it all finished but the binding. I have the binding sewed to the front but just pinned so that is why it looks a little wonky, turned out just how I pictured it, it is a table topper for a book shelf in my sewing room and my sewing room is pretty much vintage so I wanted this to look vintage, even machine quilted it myself (I AM SPOILED) I have this awesome long arm quilter who does EVERYTHING FOR ME, all I have to do is sew the top, take the top, my backing fabric and the fabric I want for the binding and she provides the batting, sandwiches, quilts and BINDS FOR ME, so this is my practice project and I am thrilled with the way it turned out. :)Thanks to Sew Mamma Sew for the idea. And NO IT ISN'T WIDER AT THE TOP Than it is at the bottom, must be because the strips are different widths, I looked at this photo and thought JEEZ, how can it be that much different, but measured it and it is the same width the whole length down. :)WHEW, had me going for a minute there.

Another Snowy Saturday

It was supposed to be Quilty Saturday ( a bunch of us get together and either work on our embroidery BOM or UFO's twice a month) and it ended up being SNOWY SATURDAY, we are snowed in our driveway AGAIN, it is beautiful but it is getting OLD TOO. I am ready for SPRING TO GET HERE SOON. My indoor plants are starting to bloom so that must mean spring is just around the corner right? Don't know what corner it is around but hopefully a close one. Nothing quilty today I guess, I have the bug to rearrange furniture, I want to take a desk out of our bedroom, move a dresser that is in the hall at the top of the steps into my sewing room and put the desk in the hall, to move the dresser into my sewing room I need to move my bookshelf into the hall, you know one of those little projects that gets to be a weekend project, and Hubby works weekend nights so he is in no mood to move furniture and he is sleeping in our bedroom so guess I won't be moving stuff today. I should go out and take some pics of the snow but I am not quite that ambitious, it is still snowing and blowing, altho the temperature seems to have warmed up a tad bit. I wanted to go junking today too, wanted to look for some vintage linens for a project I am working on, oh well, guess that can wait til next weekend. This is the project, it is our embroidery BOM and I am using an army green for the background of the embroidery block an vintage linens for the sashing etc. ISN'T IT CUTE!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to finish it.

Sun is shining and it is COLD!!!!!!! Supposed to get 4"-6" of snow starting tonight and ending tomorrow. BRRRRRR. We are going out to eat tonight with oldest DD and her Significant Other (Boyfriend) he helped Hubby move couches last weekend. We bought a new couch so he helped haul the old one out and put the new one in, so dinner is our repayment. Works for me :) Hubby is buying and I get to go out for dinner. Supposed to be quilty Saturday tomorrow (twice a month a bunch of us get together and either work on UFO's or our Embroidery BOM but with the snow I don't know if I will make it or not. Might just have to stay home and work on UFO's. I know I am getting SPRING FEVER ( wanna get out in the garden, wanna go junking, wanna read a good book, wanna go horse back riding, I WANNA GET OUT OF THE HOUSE) LOL. Hopefully I can do some of those things soon. On a change of subject, the quilt world lost a true friend day before yesterday. Mary Ann Heikel died of cancer after surviving breast cancer earlier in her life. We will miss her ALOT. Mary Ann is in the back row with the blonde hair and glasses. HUGS AND PRAYERS GOING OUT TO HER FAMILY.

And another weekend wasted. WOW, I am good at wasting time. I have so much stuff to do but our schedules are so hectic (and different, Hubby works nights) around here. So we cram in what we can when we can and it doesn't work very well this time of year with so much going on. We still don't have our Christmas Tree yet!!!!! I didn't get any sewing done today either, the Girls came home so we goofed around with them. Kelsey's (DD) boyfriend brought home a puppy so they stopped by to show us the puppy, our puppy wasn't very happy to see another puppy in the house so she pouted FOREVER. SPOILED LITTLE GIRL SHE IS!!!!!!!!! no pictures today, no sewing so nothing to show off. I do intend to work on a purse for myself soon. That should be interesting to say the least. :) anyone have any patterns or tips they would like to provide me????

Stuff and Such

There are plenty of things I should be doing today and one of them isn't playing on the computer. Tons of stuff to do, Christmas Shopping (We still haven't gotten a tree) some wrapping of the presents I do have, some Block Swaps I am in, not to mention cleaning the house etc. Maybe later today I will get busy and pick up the sewing room, looks like a disaster hit in here. Fabric all over, stuff all over the sewing table, I made some Christmas Cards last night, so there is glitter, left over refurbished cards I cut parts of to use in new cards etc. Plus I made a needle keeper for a gift, so leftovers from that are here too. What a mess. Think I should clean. LOL. Whether I do or not is yet to be seen.

Ordered New Shoes Today

I have NEVER ordered shoes online, always was worried about fitting and sending them back. etc. til one of my Girlfriends at work talked me into it. www.zappos.com. I ordered Keen Presidios in midnight navy in case you want to look at them. She has ordered from them before and told me they have awesome service, no shipping to or from, 365 day return policy. WOW. so I called and asked about sizing, really helpful, etc. ordered on line, got home from work with a message in my email, they upgraded shipping for me at no cost to me and my shoes should be here Monday or Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!! How cool is that. My Girlfriend said that too, she said she thought they would be here on Monday. WOOOHOOO. Now for the bad news, while I was at work yesterday someone (Consultant that works for us) backed into my car, luckily it was only damage in the back, bumper and tail light and it was a company car so work is paying to get mine fixed. So since it happened yesterday and today is Friday, I decided to get an estimate this afternoon (they can't holler at me for leaving work early to get an estimate for my car that got hit at work right?????>>> NOT THAT THEY WOULD ANYWAY) so I left, got the estimate and went shopping. GOOFED OFF ALL AFTERNOON!!!!!!!!!! it was fun, going shopping in the daylight, usually I work til 5 and it is dark at 5 pm. So this was a BIG TREAT!!!!!!!!!!! That is my story of the day. WOW What a Wonderful Secret Pal I had

Got my last package from my Secret Pal (6 month thing) and what a great package it was. Here are some pics of what I received. I LOVE EVERYTHING but my favorite is the needle keeper (Well it comes in a close 2nd to the candy LOL) Lots of tea to keep me going thru the winter too. She also gave me the places she found the things she made for me. I had never seen those envelopes before, they are really cute too. IT IS ALL GREAT!!!!!!!!! THANKS HEATHER!!!!!!!!

Ok, promised some quilt photos so here we go, this is what I am working on right now, well this is 1 of the things I am working on, but I want to get this done soon, all the blocks are on the background fabric, and about 1/2 of them are blanket stitched down so I want to get that all finished, use some of the homespuns for borders around the blocks then chambray for sashing and VOILA a quilt top done SOON I HOPE. So let me know what you all think. I am thinking of using different colors homespun for a border around each block, the border being one color in that particular block all the way around the block, not sure about cornerstones yet? Anyone got any suggestions? Jeanne

She is a 2 year old Rat Terrier ( we like to call her the HOLY TERRIER) she has WAY TOO MUCH ENERGY FOR HUBBY AND I, our 20 something Daughters can keep up with her but even our Lab (pictures of him to come) can't and doesn't try to keep up with her, she tried to drag him off in the woods with her and he finally laid down and gave up running, he was too pooped to participate any longer. She came back to get him tho. :)

It is COLD here today, check out my little weather girl BRRRRRR. Last night I didn't get anything accomplished that I wanted to, I planned on coming home from work and working on my SuzGuz BOM, I would like to get that done soon, but you know how things go, never got to work on it at all. Got all settled in and couldn't find the pearle cotton, didn't feel like looking too hard for it, so Dandy (Our Puppy) and I just snuggled under one of the many lap quilts we have and watched tv. Bonding Time you know. Dandy is lonesome since Her "MOMMA KENDRA" moved to Naperville for her new job. So now the Mothering duties have fallen upon me, most of the time I don't mind, but 1:30 in the morning when we have to go out in the freezing cold and look around is a little more than I bargained for when I told the GIRLS NO MORE PUPPIES but gave in when I saw her. I will post a photo of her later today when I get home from work. :) Everyone have a good day. TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW, last time I was here I was talking about spring around the corner and it is WINTER HERE AGAIN, guess I should be more consistent. YEA RIGHT. Well I have spent the bigger share of yesterday and today looking at sew mama sew's blog, she was having a big giveaway. WHO KNEW there WERE SO MANY TALENTED PEOPLE OUT THERE. So I decided to get back to my blog and next time she has a giveaway, I want to be part of it too. Since I last chatted, I have sewn my entire b/w crazy quilt together, now just need to find a back for it. Have enough house blocks from swaps to make a quilt top, have been working on BOM from SUZGUZ Designs and they are turning out really nice, went to a sale of a quilter who died after a 4 year battle with breast cancer, her friends got together and sold some of her HUGE STASH, I bought enough shirtings to make myself a beautiful quilt top so I have been working on that too. LOTS OF UFO'S that need to get done, so I am on a NO BUY deal, no buying unless I need something to finish a project I have already started. Also on a NO MORE SWAP deal, did way too many swaps this year and didn't get near as much accomplished as I wanted to. I am also on a pay it forward, buy home made and buy local binge for the Holiday Season. Makes perfect sense to me, the economy is going down the tubes so instead of supporting WHO KNOWS WHO OR WHERE, why not buy from the person that made it????? and why not buy locally if it is at all possible, that way the money stays local too. NO CHINA BUYING FOR ME THIS SEASON!!!!!!!! Well enough babbling. I will try to get some pics of some of my projects on here soon. Everyone have a nice night. :) Jeanne

Well I think Spring might actually be around the corner, altho we had frost this morning. I have been busy (Seems like it anyway) but haven't gotten much accomplished. I did learn to hand applique which I am really having fun with. Appliqueing the Dresden Plates I got for Christmas, now that I know how I have BIG PLANS. So many blocks and so little time. With spring on the way that will mean less time in the house and less time to sew unless I take my hand stitching and sit on the porch in the sunshine and hide from everyone inside (THINK THAT WOULD WORK????) I might have to try it as soon as it warms up enough to sit out there for any length of time. :) No pictures today but I will post some of my finished Dresden Plate blocks soon.

Well today was an eventful day, a Girlfriend of mine came out and we got alot done, went quilt shop shopping, went out for lunch, came back home and sorted thru FABRIC, box after box, made some "FUN PACKAGES" for some friends, 4 big boxes, plus a box for the girl who helped me and a box for myself, some went in the trash (WE HAD TO BE TOUGH YOU KNOW) and a BIG BOX is going to our retreat with me for the giveaway pile, so I said to my Girlfriend "What if no one wants it, I have to bring it back home"? and she said "NO THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE DUMPSTERS THERE" LOL. Good thinking. So we purged and made some other quilters VERY HAPPY all at the same time. IT FEELS GOOD TO DO A GOOD THING and EVEN BETTER TO GET RID OF ALL THAT FABRIC!!!!!!!!!!!! So that was my Saturday, hope all of you had as much fun as I did.

Hope EVERYONE has someone special to share your day with. :) I know I will be spending mine with Hubby of 28 years and 2 of our 3 DD's, (the 3rd one is working). We ordered out for Chinese (had to go to the next town to pick it up-we live in a small town) and the roads are crappy but Hubby was DETERMINED, we made it there and back safe and sound so now we are home for the evening. Ok, Girls just came upstairs with a card and flowers, NOW I FEEL BAD, the deal was NO PRESENTS, just going out to eat. And the FLOWERS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

First of all THANKS MARION for the nice award, I appreciate it. Well this week is flying by and I am not getting ANYTHING DONE, Hubby had Carpal Tunnel Surgery yesterday so I took him to the hospital, had the whole day off work. Now that being said you would think I got something done right???? WRONG, I did nothing except (well I don't think I really did anything) LOL. Tonight I got up some ambition and worked on my first crazy quilt block (now I know why they call it crazy) I struggled with that block (I thought it would be EASY). I think I put way too much thought into it and made it more difficult. I am still working on the block, but when I get it finished I will post it (if it is half way decent looking). So it is Thursday and I haven't done much this week, hopefully the weekend will be better.

Starting a new project (like I don't have enough old ones) Someone (CIE IT IS YOUR FAULT) suggested a crazy quilt BOM, so I signed up for that and then as if that wasn't enough I signed up for a RBR and picked Crazy Quilt for my theme (NOW I THINK I AM CRAZY FOR PICKING IT) but I finally got my plans all figured out for the RBR, I have NEVER done a Crazy quilt or anything like it, so this is all new to me, altho I used to do cross stitch and know applique stitches. So my plan for the RBR is all cottons so no one has to go buy silk or anything, and my colors are black/white, everyone has black and white in their stash RIGHT???? and then the embellishments will be easy too, most colors go with those 2 colors. I bought some seed beads and some pearls tonight to make a spider and her web so that is my plan for tomorrow, IF (THAT IS THE MAGIC WORD) I get it done tomorrow I will try to post it. :) I am NOT PROMISING ANYTHING YET. :)

IT IS SOOOO COLD here today, the temp. is -9 right now and the wind chill is much colder. Good news is it isn't snowing and it is supposed to be 45 degrees by Monday. Gotta Love Wisconsin Weather. Haven't gotten any quilting or sewing done this week, been busy around the house, hope to get some quilting done this weekend. I have lots of small projects I want to work on and then I have quite a few big projects too. Some of us (Well so far another girl and myself) are trying to start a small quilting group in our little town, our Minister graciously offered the Church which is nice because we have banquet tables and lots of room, now if we can only get it going, I would be able to sew during the week too, seems like if I put more effort into it, I get more done. I don't get any sewing done during the week at home, but if I have to drag my sewing machine etc. up to Church to sew I get alot done. Method to my Madness. :)

Another Snowy Monday

I won't bore you with more snow pictures, but it is snowing AGAIN and NOW IT IS REALLY COLD, and we are all sad today, the Packers lost yesterday and we (WISCONSINITES) were all hoping for a Super Bowl Trip. Oh well, there is always next year. I am going to start looking for quilty blogs and adding them to my favorites list (once I figure out how to add them) maybe I will look for some horsey blogs and add them too. I do have a sort of Christmas picture of our Girls to put in the slideshow, that was so easy to set up but now I can't figure out how to add photos to it. Guess I will have to play with it a little.

New Day in the Neighborhood

More snow, I am adding some pics of the snow in our yard, it is beautiful, but REALLY COLD tonight, check out the weather Girl. :) She is dressed warm I hope. Joined a BOM and am really getting excited about it, it is a Crazy Quilt BOM, I have never done a crazy quilt but have always wanted to, so I went shopping tonight, first to get my KONA SNOW I have been waiting for since right after Christmas, who knew it was so hard to get a hold of, so when I was in Madison I checked out the Good Will store, they had LOTS OF clothes for crazy quilts, had lots of embroidery, some lacey shirts, some eyelet shirts, some velveteen dresses, WAY TOO MUCH FOR ME TO KNOW WHAT TO BUY, here I thought I would be strugging to find things BOY WAS I WRONG. OH well I will post a photo when I get done with my first block, hopefully this weekend, altho now that I have my Kona I am going to down to Aunt Lilas's (she finished the butterfly quilt for me) and have her help me with my Dresden Plates, I got the Kona for the blocks and I am going to applique or needleturn or whatever Lilas does to the Kona. So enjoy my photos and come back soon.

Life has been busy around here lately, snow and more snow. I went out to see our horses yesterday and took some awesome pics of the scenery and the horses so I will share a couple with you. Chilli is our pretty little arab mare, she is THE PRINCESS, if I wasn't the Queen she would be. She is s fun little mare, sweetest disposition you could ask for. Isn't the pasture pretty, we tried to get pictures of the deer eating with the horses, but our puppy was barking and she spooked the deer. Maybe next time we won't take her with us and we will get lucky. It was quite a site.

I will post some New Years Day photos tomorrow morning, but tonight I just thought I would wish EVERYONE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!! I hope to get some cleaning, cooking, sewing and OUTBACK BOWL WATCHING in tomorrow. No photos today, but it is snowing again. Our record for snow for the month of December is 35" and we are at 28" and still counting, expecting another storm tomorrow, so we might have a new record. ISN'T THAT EXCITING????? NOT, we have enough snow for anyone and everyone to have fun in. We took our oldest Kitty to the Vet this morning (Wish I had a picture of her) and he said he thinks she has liver failure and will have to be euthenized. :( She sleeps with me every night. I will miss her, but she isn't happy or healthy so this is the best thing, I remember when I was a little girl and one of our dogs had to be put down I was upset and crying, my Dad said "Well Jeanne, if you are going to have pets, you have to take care of them and do what is best for them, not always what is best for you" I will never forget that, and he was SOOO RIGHT. I will try to find some pics of her and post them.

Haven't been here for some time, busy getting ready for college graduations, our twin Dd's graduated on Sat. Dec. 15th, Hubby's Birthday was Dec. 17th and of course Christmas. So now all the hectic stuff is over and there is a little more time to spend doing fun stuff, I got some awesome Christmas presents, my Husband's Great Aunt made these for me, they are all hand stitched. Now I just have to get the background fabric and applique them on, she is going to show me how to hand stitch them on the background blocks, then sashing and I have a beautiful heirloom Dresden Plate Quilt. How lucky am I????? There are 16 of them, enough to make a quilt top by adding some sashing and borders.

It's getting closer to Christmas

So who is done shopping, sewing, scrapping, swapping, knitting, or whatever it is you do getting ready for the holidays??? NOT ME, I am just starting my shopping, no quilting, sewing, knitting, scrapping or anything else here this year, way too busy to make time to get presents done. I saw an article in Fons and Porter (Pretty sure that is where it was) about someone who had all these good intentions about making all these gifts, it was SOOO FUNNY AND SOOO TRUE, good intentions work as long as everyone co operates with you to get things done. :) Still working on picking colors for Bonnies mystery quilt, by the time I have my colors picked out the mystery will be over. :) Have a good night. This is a family quilt done by my MIL and my Aunt In Law (MIL's Sister) finished it for me. All hand appliqued and hand quilted. Isn't it beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Snow Day at the Jabs Household

Well today is Dec. 11th and we had ANOTHER SNOW STORM TODAY. That makes over 16" of snow on the ground since Dec. 1st and we are expecting at least 2 more snow storms THIS WEEK! I wanted to work on some quilting projects but never got that far, cleaned the house, baked some cookies, watched a little tv and started to plan my next quilt, altho I have plenty to do without planning any more projects.
